N-acetyl cysteine or NAC is a form of the amino acid cysteine available in supplement form. NAC is is a precursor to glutathione and is often given when people cannot tolerate glutathione (if someone is sulfur sensitive). Since glutathione is the "master antioxidant" it is very important to the sick lyme body.

When it comes to NAC and glutathione, most lyme patients take one or the other. Some take both. Both are given in the short term in Dr. Horowitz's covid protocol.

NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) helps the body build antioxidants. It's also sometimes helpful to people who have to undergo procedures with radio contrast dye or other chemical exposure to detox it out of their bodies. For years before it became a popular supplement it has been used in hospital settings. It can often be indicated for COPD and other respiratory issues. Doctors like Horowitz recommend 600 mg a day.
