Do Women have more cases of Lyme?

What we have heard and seen in commenting and research is women seem to get Lyme more. There are some common themes as to why this may be true.

Hormone fluctuations seem to be at play due to monthly cycles and menopause. Women tend to be dismissed more often and not taken serious compared to men. Not across the board but more evident.

We often hear from men less often and they arent as likely to seek community support through groups etc. Possibly the way they are raised or their nature perhaps to be strong and push through. Maybe women are more used to sharing feelings more often is a common comment?

All these reasons seem to be a part of this very noticeable observation. Not that men suffer less but we dug into why there appears to be more women cases.

"In her March 2013 New York Times article, “The Gender Gap in Pain”, award-winning health writer Laurie Edwards cites several studies that prove that women’s complaints of pain are much more likely to be dismissed than men’s."

"Is gender bias against women in Lyme disease a problem?"

⚘"Women have an exaggerated response to Borrelia infection, with more inflammatory and inhibitory cytokines than men. This may promote the evolution of chronic Lyme disease. (Jarefors 2006)."

"Dr. Stricker identified four major areas in Lyme disease where males and females are not alike "
